Paste or load subtitles and check them against the cinema rules (SMPTE RDD 52, for ST 428-7 XML) and, optionally, a streaming recipient's own guide. SMPTE XML gets the full cinema check; SRT and WebVTT get the style advisory.
The Netflix Timed Text Style Guide (42 characters per line, 20/17 cps reading speed, 5/6 s–7 s durations — English guides, checked 29 July 2026) or the Amazon Prime Video language guides (English 20/17 cps, Norwegian 17/13 cps, both with a 2-frame minimum gap — revision 20 May 2026).
Gap rules are checked only where the recipient publishes one. Netflix's former “2 frames or ≥ half a second” rule is not checked: its General Requirements change log records the timing and frame-gap sections being withdrawn on 24 July 2020. Amazon still specifies a 2-frame minimum, and cinema's own 2-frame minimum (RDD 52 §7.2.5) is checked for ST 428-7 XML.
